Ukraine launched a large-scale drone attack overnight, targeting key Russian military and energy sites, including an ammunition plant in western Russia, an oil terminal in Crimea, and a munitions depot used by Russian ground forces.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said the Y. M. Sverdlov plant in Nizhny Novgorod was hit by long-range drones, causing explosions and a fire.

“The factory is one of Russia’s largest producers of explosive materials,” the General Staff said, adding that it is capable of equipping almost all classes of munitions, including aviation and artillery shells, aerial bombs, and air-defense missile warheads.

The General Staff said Ukraine also targeted an ammunition depot used by Russia’s 18th Combined Arms Army in occupied Crimea. The result of the strike is still being assessed.

Separately, the General Staff reported that drones hit the Feodosia oil terminal, Crimea’s largest fuel storage facility, with a capacity of 250,000 tons. The strike sparked a large fire at the site.

Ukraine has intensified long-range drone strikes on Russian energy and logistics targets over the past year. 16 of Russia’s 38 refineries have been hit since August, contributing to fuel shortages, particularly in Crimea, where half of local gas stations recently halted sales, according to Russian pro-government news outlet Kommersant.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defenses shot down 251 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 40 over Crimea and 62 over the Black Sea.
