Ukrainian forces intercepted a Russian Kalibr cruise missile over western Ukraine using a Chinese-made FN-6 man-portable air-defense system (MANPADS), the 143rd Joint Training Center “Podillia” said.
In a Facebook post, the center shared photos and videos of the missile being shot down and said the low-flying projectile was destroyed within seconds of entering a community in Western Ukraine. The incident happened during Russia’s overnight missile barrage on Wednesday, which targeted multiple regions across Ukraine.

“[Members of a mobile fire team] destroyed a Kalibr cruise missile headed for a populated area in western Ukraine. The MANPADS gunner had only seconds to react and engage the target. A precise launch — and the Kalibr was destroyed in midair,” the post read.

Serhiy Tyurin, head of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Military Administration, wrote on Telegram: “Thanks to our 143rd Joint Training Center ‘Podillia,’ a cruise missile was destroyed in the region today. It likely saved lives or prevented destruction during the attack by Russian invaders.”
The FN-6, developed by China’s Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology), is an infrared-guided, shoulder-fired system designed to target aircraft, helicopters, and low-altitude cruise missiles. It is in service with the Chinese military and has been exported to countries including Sudan, Pakistan, Syria, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Bangladesh.
According to open-source reports, the Chinese FN-6 MANPADS were likely purchased from Sudan.
