During the Justified Accord 2024 (JA24) exercise in Kenya, members of the Kenya Defence Forces Rapid Response Unit collaborated with the U.S. Air Force 26th Special Tactics Squadron, part of the Air Force Special Operations Command, to conduct specialized technical rescue operations. This year’s exercise, led by the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), and hosted in Kenya, involved personnel and units from 23 nations, focusing on building readiness, preparing for UN and AU mandated missions, and improving response capabilities to humanitarian crises.
The training included various aspects of casualty evacuation, demonstrated through rappelling exercises. Participants practiced securing themselves and casualties using specialized equipment, rappelling down towers, and safely extracting casualties through windows. The operations highlighted the precision and teamwork required in technical rescue scenarios, with close-up shots capturing the meticulous process of clicking into locks for rappelling, securing casualties in litters, and the coordination involved in lowering casualties to safety.
