SOUTHWEST ASIA — Hundreds of American troops based in Syria received an early Christmas thanks to Operation Holiday Express. This year, Santa’s sleigh and reindeer came through by means of a CH-47 Chinook helicopter, with Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent resolve leadership bringing gifts, messages from home, and the 1st Infantry Division Band to deployed troops, Dec. 24, 2019. During the holiday season, various organizations and military communities come together to bring cheer and support to service members and their families. Deployed troops receive special holiday meals, with the Defense Logistics Agency sending thousands of pounds of food to various regions, including Northern Europe and the Middle East. Military families participate in community events, and “drops” of toys and gifts occur worldwide, such as Operation Christmas Drop, which delivers donations to remote islands in Micronesia. Additionally, numerous charities and foundations organize giveaways, workshops, and charitable events to provide enriching holiday experiences for service members and their loved ones.
