Newly declassified intelligence shared with Congress reveals that Russia has suffered significant casualties in Ukraine since its invasion in February 2022. Over the past 22 months, approximately 315,000 Russian troops have been killed or wounded, out of a pre-invasion ground force strength of 360,000. Russia has also lost a substantial number of tanks and armored vehicles, with 2,200 tanks destroyed out of 3,500, and one-third of its armored vehicles rendered inoperative. These losses have not only had a human toll but have also strained Russia’s military capabilities and undermined its efforts to modernize its ground forces.
