The Chief of Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service, Richard Moore (also known as MI6), has expressed gratitude to Russian state television for inadvertently promoting espionage for the UK. Russian state TV aired a segment of a speech Moore delivered in July at the British Embassy in Prague, where he urged Russians to collaborate with Britain in light of their dissatisfaction with Russian leadership. The unexpected promotion was part of a program featuring Moore, presented by former Russian spy Maria Butina, who criticized Moore’s recruitment methods. Western officials note a shift in motivations among Russians providing information to the West, driven more by anger at the Russian government since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.Â
