A Russian missile strike on Tuesday in Dnipro, southeastern Ukraine, damaged schools, residential buildings, and a passenger train. Ukrainian officials reported at least 17 people killed and over 270 injured.
According to regional governor Serhii Lysak, 15 people were killed in attacks in Dnipro, with two additional fatalities reported in the nearby town of Samarske, about six miles from the city.
“Unfortunately, there are dead and wounded everywhere,” Lysak said, noting that nearly 100 people remain hospitalized and 27 children are among the wounded.

Ukraine’s national railway company, Ukrzaliznytsia, reported that a train traveling from Odesa to Zaporizhzhia was damaged in the attack.
In a post on Telegram, Ukrzaliznytsia said no passengers or railway workers were killed, though several were injured and are receiving medical treatment.
The attack occurred as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged NATO member states in the Netherlands to increase their investment in Ukraine’s defense sector and to tighten controls on the supply of foreign components that he claimed Russia uses to manufacture its weapons.
“This is not a fight where it’s hard to choose a side,” he wrote on X. “Standing with Ukraine means defending life.”
Russia has intensified its aerial campaign against Ukraine in recent weeks. On June 17, 28 people were killed in the deadliest airstrike on Kyiv this year. Just a day before the Dnipro attack, 10 more were killed in Kyiv and surrounding regions.
Direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine last month in Istanbul failed to produce a ceasefire, resulting only in an agreement on prisoner exchanges. No further talks have been scheduled.
