OpenAI and Anthropic Launch Rival PE Joint Ventures to Address Enterprise AI Deployment Gap

OpenAI and Anthropic each announced private equity-backed joint ventures on Monday to accelerate enterprise AI deployment. Both companies cited the same core bottleneck: a shortage of engineers capable of implementing the technology inside real-world business operations.

Anthropic confirmed the formation of a new, unnamed AI services firm with founding partners Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, and Goldman Sachs, each committing approximately $300 million toward a $1.5 billion valuation. General Atlantic, Leonard Green, Apollo Global Management, GIC, and Sequoia Capital also invested.

“There’s a big shortage of people who know how to apply these tools into businesses and then transform them,” Goldman’s global head of asset and wealth management Marc Nachmann told CNBC.

OpenAI finalized a parallel vehicle called The Deployment Company hours earlier, raising more than $4 billion from 19 investors at a $10 billion valuation, with TPG, Brookfield Asset Management, Advent International, and Bain Capital among the backers. OpenAI committed $500 million in initial equity and is offering investors a guaranteed 17.5% annual return over five years, a structure not present in Anthropic’s deal.

“Enterprise demand for Claude is significantly outpacing any single delivery model,” Anthropic Chief Financial Officer Krishna Rao said.

Both ventures adopt the forward-deployed engineer (FDE) model, an approach popularized by Palantir in which engineers embed directly inside client organizations to build AI systems rather than deploying software remotely.

Both announcements came as the companies headed toward initial public offerings. OpenAI closed $122 billion in funding at an $852 billion valuation on March 31. Anthropic raised $30 billion in its Series G round in February at a $380 billion valuation, though reports from late April 2026 suggest it is already seeking new funding at a valuation exceeding $900 billion, potentially overtaking OpenAI.

“Having the model alone doesn’t change your workflows or how you operate,” Nachmann said. “You need people who can combine the technology with what’s actually happening in the business and implement those changes.”
