Job interviews can be nerve-wracking experiences, especially for first-timers. To make a good impression, one must be prepared for common questions interviewers are likely to ask. In this article, Vicky Oliver shares a list of 10 such questions and provides guidance on how best to answer them to enhance one’s chances of landing the job.

Key Points:

  1. Self-Introduction: Interviewers often ask candidates to share their background. Respondents should present a coherent story about their professional journey, tying in relevant experiences and achievements.
  2. Work Preferences: Questions might revolve around preferred work environments or teamwork versus individual tasks. Candidates should align their responses with the company’s culture while highlighting their adaptability.
  3. Handling Pressure: Many interviewers ask about dealing with stress and challenges. Sharing specific instances where one demonstrated resilience or problem-solving can be impactful.
  4. Salary Expectations: It’s crucial to research average salaries for the position in question beforehand. Offering a range rather than a specific number can be a better strategy, leaving room for negotiation.
  5. Gap Years: If there’s a noticeable break in one’s career or education, interviewers might inquire about it. It’s important to frame gap years as periods of personal or professional growth, providing tangible examples of how the time off benefitted one’s career trajectory.
