On Sunday, shrapnel from an intercepted U.S.-made missile fired by Ukraine hit a crowded beach in Sevastopol, a port city in Russian-occupied Crimea. The incident occurred during a series of retaliatory attacks between Russia and Ukraine, leading to significant casualties on both sides.
According to the Russian defense ministry, five people, including three children, were killed in the Crimean attack, which involved the use of U.S.-supplied Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) missiles. The ministry claimed that U.S. specialists had set the missiles’ coordinates using data from American spy satellites. Four missiles were reportedly shot down, while a fifth detonated mid-air, scattering debris over the beach. Russian state television aired footage showing beachgoers fleeing the scene and emergency responders aiding the injured.

In addition to the casualties in Crimea, Russian authorities reported that six people died and over 100 were wounded in Ukrainian drone and missile attacks on Sunday. In Sevastopol alone, 151 people were injured, and falling rocket fragments sparked a forest fire and ignited a residential building.
Further cross-border violence included a drone attack in Russia’s Belgorod region, where one person was killed and three others were injured. Ukrainian forces also targeted Russia’s Krasnodar region, reportedly destroying facilities used for launching and storing Iranian-designed Shahed drones.
Amidst these developments, the Ukrainian Navy reported the destruction of drone facilities in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region. Satellite images confirmed the damage to storage depots, training facilities, and control points for drones.
