On November 3, 2023, a 33-year-old man drove to MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, and demanded entry while carrying an AR-15 rifle and loaded magazines in his car’s trunk. The man, who refused to identify himself, claimed to be “Captain America” and insisted on meeting with a U.S. Special Operations Command general to provide top-secret information. During a confrontation with security personnel, he threatened to return daily to seek entry. Due to his suspicious behavior and apparent mental condition, he was handcuffed, and a subsequent search of his vehicle uncovered the firearm and 125 rounds of ammunition. He now faces a federal indictment on one count of attempted possession of a firearm at a federal facility and could receive up to one year in federal prison if convicted. MacDill Air Force Base houses the U.S. Central Command and the U.S. Special Operations Command.
