Lebanon has confirmed the return of four Lebanese captives from Israeli custody, with a fifth expected to be handed over on Wednesday.
The handover took place after Israel announced on Tuesday that it had agreed to hold border negotiations with Lebanon, calling the release of the five Lebanese detainees held by the Israeli military a “gesture to the Lebanese president.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office on Tuesday said that Israel had agreed with Lebanon, the U.S., and France to establish working groups to discuss the long standing disputes over the land border between Israel and Lebanon.
A four-way meeting, held at the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon headquarters in Naqoura, resulted in the formation of the three joint working groups. These teams will focus on the five strategic points still occupied by Israel within Lebanese territory, the disputed Blue Line that serves as the de facto border between the two nations, and the fate of Lebanese citizens detained by Israel.
Despite the recent development, fighting continued in Lebanon on Tuesday, with an Israeli drone strike in the southern part of the country killing a Hezbollah operative, according to a military source cited by The Times of Israel.
Another Israeli Air Force strike in southern Lebanon targeted a group of Hezbollah operatives at a facility belonging to the Iran-backed group, according to Israeli forces.
Israel also conducted airstrikes on Friday night in southern Lebanon, targeting a Hezbollah operative and sites used to store weapons and rocket launchers. The Israel Defense Forces stated that the strikes were carried out due to the threat these sites posed to Israel.
