An Israeli airstrike in Lebanon on Saturday killed nine people, including a Lebanese army brigadier general and two soldiers, the Lebanese military said.
The Lebanese army said Brig. Gen. Wassam Sabra, Capt. Elie Khoury and soldier Hussein Ghozal were killed when a strike hit their military vehicle on the Khardali-Nabatieh road. Lebanese state media reported that a separate Israeli airstrike on the southern village of Saksakiyah killed six civilians and wounded four others.

The Israeli military said it struck the vehicle after it was observed “moving suspiciously” toward Israeli troops near Kfar Tibnit and after receiving “concrete indications” that Hezbollah was preparing to direct fire from the area. The military said the incident is under review.

“The IDF is reviewing the incident, and lessons will be learned accordingly. The IDF operates against the Hezbollah terrorist organization, not against the Lebanese Army,” the military said.
Lebanon’s army condemned the attack and added that Israel’s actions are intended to undermine efforts “to reach a solution that would restore stability, establish a comprehensive ceasefire and lead to the Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Lebanese territories.”
The strike came amid ongoing fighting between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah group, which rejected a U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal earlier this week. Israel said it struck about 150 Hezbollah targets over the weekend, including weapons depots, command centers, rocket launchers and other infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Israeli media reported Sunday that two Israeli soldiers were killed in separate incidents in southern Lebanon.
