Military forces intercepted a speedboat carrying almost four tons of cocaine, marking the largest cocaine seizure of the year. This operation was the result of coordination between the Colombian Navy, the Colombian Air Force, and the Joint Interagency Task Force of the United States Southern Command. The operation unfolded near San Andrés Isla, with military ships and planes pursuing the speedboat, which undertook evasive maneuvers and disposed of packages into the sea during the chase.

Upon interception, the speedboat, covered with a blue tarp concealing its illicit cargo, was found to contain 3,355 kilograms (approximately 3.7 tons) of cocaine. The chase and subsequent seizure were documented in aerial footage released by the Colombian Navy, showcasing the dramatic moments leading to the capture. The operation resulted in the arrest of three Colombians, one Honduran, and one Venezuelan aboard the vessel. The confiscated drugs, estimated to yield over eight million doses, were earmarked to be destroyed, preventing a significant quantity of narcotics from reaching international streets and potentially impacting public health.
The suspects, along with the seized narcotics and vessel, have been handed over to the Colombian Attorney General’s Office for further legal proceedings.
Another recent operation off Colombia’s Pacific coast led to the discovery of a semi-submersible vessel laden with over four tons of cocaine, underscoring the innovative methods employed by traffickers and the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies. Colombia remains a significant producer of the world’s cocaine, contributing to about 60% of the global supply.
