Israel has carried out multiple strikes on southern Lebanon over the past day, targeting Hezbollah positions and military infrastructure, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Among the key figures killed was Mohammed Qassem Al-Shaer, a senior commander in Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force. Al-Shaer was reportedly killed in a drone strike in the village of Qaraoun, located in Lebanon’s western Beqaa district, approximately 40 kilometers from the Israeli border.
The IDF stated that Al-Shaer had been involved in orchestrating numerous attacks against Israel. His death, they said, was a significant blow to Hezbollah’s ability to carry out operations from southern Lebanon, particularly along the northern Israeli border. The Radwan Force, to which Al-Shaer belonged, is considered Hezbollah’s elite unit, tasked with carrying out cross-border operations, including potential infiltrations into Israeli territory.
The strikes, which occurred overnight on Tuesday and into Wednesday, were part of a broader Israeli campaign targeting Hezbollah infrastructure. According to Israeli military reports, the IDF hit 30 Hezbollah rocket launchers and military sites across southern Lebanon. Israeli warplanes reportedly bombed areas near the towns of Zibqine, Chaaitiyeh, and Qlaileh, resulting in significant damage to property and local infrastructure.

In response to Al-Shaer’s killing, Hezbollah launched a series of rocket and drone attacks targeting northern Israel, including military sites near the towns of Metula and Ruwaisat Al-Qarn. The Israeli military reported no casualties from these attacks, noting that many of the projectiles were intercepted or landed in open areas. The IDF retaliated by striking additional Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, including missile launchers near the towns of Mansouri and At Tiri.

The death of Al-Shaer follows a series of escalations between Israel and Hezbollah, which have been exchanging fire almost daily since October. These hostilities have heightened tensions in the region, with both sides intensifying military actions. Diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation have so far proven unsuccessful, as border clashes continue, raising concerns of a broader conflict.
Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency confirmed that Israeli strikes caused significant damage in several regions, with at least one fatality reported in the town of Mays Al-Jabal. Hezbollah has not provided further details about other casualties but confirmed the death of Al-Shaer.
