The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Monday the first operational use of the new “Bar” rocket system against Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.
The “Bar” rocket, first introduced in August 2024, features an advanced navigation system designed for precision in complex combat environments. According to the military, the system can strike designated targets with high accuracy in a very short timeframe.
Developed by Elbit Systems, the new system replaces the IDF’s older Romach rockets, which have been in service for approximately a decade. Romach rockets had a range of 35 kilometers with an accuracy margin under ten meters.
Captain S., commander of a battery in Battalion 334 of the 282nd Division, explained the operational advantage of the new rocket system. “For example, a soldier in the Strip who spots a terrorist with an anti-tank missile on one of the floors of a certain building. From the moment he contacts us over the radio, within about seven minutes, a rocket hits that exact point, with minimal deviation.”
Beyond Gaza, the IDF confirmed successful artillery strikes using the “Bar” rocket against Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon. The strikes reportedly destroyed observation posts, anti-tank positions, weapons depots, and other terrorist infrastructure.
