Israeli airstrikes hit several locations in Beirut’s southern suburbs on Monday night, killing at least 18 people, including four children, and injuring 60 more. The strikes targeted Shiite majority areas linked to Hezbollah.
One of the largest attacks occurred in the Ghobeiry neighborhood, where a multi-story building collapsed after being hit by a missile. Israeli officials claimed the building housed a Hezbollah terror cell. Footage of the strike, shared widely online, showed the building crumbling within seconds.

In the Jnah neighborhood, close to Rafik Hariri University Hospital, additional airstrikes damaged several buildings and caused widespread destruction. Though the hospital itself was not directly targeted, the nearby blasts resulted in significant damage to its structure. Emergency teams are still working to rescue people trapped under the rubble.
Israel also struck branches of the Al-Qard al-Hassan Association, an organization accused of financing Hezbollah. Israeli officials have targeted these financial institutions as part of their broader effort to weaken Hezbollah’s infrastructure. The group, however, denies the facilities have any military connection, stating they serve civilians.
The airstrikes occurred as U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in the region to push for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Blinken’s visit comes as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the broader conflict that has spread across Lebanon and Gaza. Meanwhile, Egypt has proposed a temporary truce with Hamas, but no agreement has been reached.
Since Hezbollah began firing rockets into northern Israel on October 8 in support of Hamas, violence has claimed over 2,400 lives in Lebanon and killed 59 people in Israel. The conflict shows no signs of ending, despite continued international efforts to de-escalate tensions.
