Israel described Unit 840 as the branch responsible for directing Iranian terrorist activity against the State of Israel.
“He (al-Jawahiri) operated under the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) carrying out Iran-directed terror activities against Israel and its security forces from Syria and Lebanon,” the IDF added.
The NNA reported that another Israeli drone strike early Thursday afternoon hit a pickup truck at the entrance to Safad al-Batikh in southern Lebanon’s Bint Jbeil district. In a brief statement, the Israeli army said it had killed a Hezbollah member in the area.
Reports identified the Hezbollah operative as Mohammad Alaa Al-Din, also known as Abu Al-Din.

A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah took effect in November 2024, ending over a year of cross-border attacks during Israel’s war in Gaza. Despite this, Israel has carried out near-daily strikes in Lebanon, saying they target Hezbollah infrastructure or operatives who breach the ceasefire.
Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun, who has vowed to disarm Hezbollah, expressed optimism on Thursday that diplomatic efforts will prevent Israel from escalating the ongoing strikes into a full-scale war.
“Diplomatic contacts to push back the specter of war have not stopped,” Aoun said. “I tell you that the specter of war has been pushed away from Lebanon, and matters will head in a positive direction, God willing.”
Last week, Israeli and Lebanese officials met in the southern town of Naqoura for the second time this month, as the two adversaries work to uphold the year-old ceasefire in the Israel-Hezbollah conflict.
