Iran Launches First Naval Drill Since War With Israel

Iran began a two-day naval exercise Thursday in the Gulf of Oman and northern Indian Ocean, its first since the June war with Israel, state television reported.

According to the report, the “Sustainable Power 1404” drill saw the frigate IRIS Sabalan and patrol vessel IRIS Ganaveh launch Nasir and Qadir cruise missiles at sea targets. Coastal batteries also participated in the drills.

Iranian Navy has launched a two-day major naval missile exercise – codenamed Sustainable Power 1404 – across the northern Indian Ocean and the Sea of Oman.

The exercise follows last month’s Casarex 2025 joint drill with Russia in the Caspian Sea.

The drill comes weeks after Iran suspended cooperation with the United Nations nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), citing the agency’s failure to condemn Israeli and U.S. strikes on its nuclear facilities.

European powers have set an Aug. 31 deadline for Iran to resolve its standoff with the IAEA, warning that failure to comply could lead to the reimposition of UN sanctions.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Aziz Nasirzadeh told IRNA news agency Wednesday that Iran has equipped its forces with a new missile and is ready to deploy them to counter “any potential enemy adventurism.”
