German authorities arrested three men in Berlin on Wednesday for allegedly planning attacks on Jewish and Israeli targets on behalf of Hamas, federal prosecutors said.
The men, identified only as Abed Al G., Wael F. M., and Ahmad I. in accordance with German privacy rules, are accused of membership in a foreign terrorist organization and of planning acts of violence that could endanger Germany, a close ally of Israel.
Two of the suspects hold German citizenship, while the third was born in Lebanon.
Prosecutors said the suspects had been working since the summer of 2025 to obtain firearms and ammunition “for assassinations targeting Israeli or Jewish institutions in Germany.”
During the arrests, police recovered from the suspects various weapons, including an AK-47 assault rifle, several pistols, and a considerable amount of ammunition.
The suspects are due to appear before a judge Thursday.
Meanwhile, Hamas denied any connection to the three men, calling the allegations unfounded and saying its struggle is “confined to opposing Israeli occupation in Palestine.”
This is not the first time Hamas has faced such accusations. In December 2023, German and Dutch authorities arrested four alleged Hamas members accused of planning attacks on Jewish sites in Europe.
The arrests come a week before the second anniversary of Hamas’ October 2023 attack on Israel, when militants killed about 1,200 people and took more than 250 hostages.
