The French military confirmed that its frigate, Languedoc, operating in the Red Sea, intercepted and destroyed two drones late Saturday. These unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were launched from the Houthi-held port city of Hodeida in Yemen, located 110 kilometers away from where the frigate was patrolling. The specific target of these drones remains unconfirmed by the French navy, but they were reported to be heading “straight toward” the Languedoc.
The Houthi’s aggressive stance has escalated in recent months, including the seizure of a vehicle transport ship linked to Israel, which they still hold near Hodeida.Â
The Languedoc is an Aquitaine-class frigate of the French Navy, equipped with advanced missile systems and has been active in the Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf, supporting USCENTCOM missions and ensuring maritime security.
