Kamikaze drones operated by an Iranian-backed militia struck a U.S. military Black Hawk helicopter and an air defense radar at Victory Base Complex near Baghdad International Airport.
First-person view (FPV) drone footage released by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq on March 23 shows drones targeting a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter parked on the base, as well as an AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel radar system.

Video of the helicopter strike cuts out just before detonation, leaving the extent of damage unclear. U.S. officials have not publicly commented on the footage.
Open-source analysis suggests the aircraft may be a HH-60M medical evacuation variant, as parts of the helicopter are intentionally blurred in the video. Evergreen Intel, an OSINT analyst, wrote on X: “Noticing they [militia] blurred out a portion of their attack video (green). I think they were trying to hide the fact they attacked a medevac helo. Note white mark circled in orange.”

Another video uploaded by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq shows a drone striking an AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel radar. The system, which can cover targets up to 120 kilometers (about 75 miles) away, is often used alongside the NASAMS surface-to-air missile system.
The Sentinel radar caught fire after the strike. No air defenses engaged the incoming drones.

Just over a week ago, video emerged showing drone strikes on the same base in Iraq.
For the first time, an Iranian-backed militia has carried out an FPV drone attack in Iraq, an incredibly dangerous new development.

“So far, Iraqi groups are showing less than highest UAV control skills, but they’re learning,” Defense Express wrote in its report.
Defence Blog notes that FPV drones used in the recent attacks are typically modified commercial or semi-custom platforms equipped with explosives. These drones can be launched from relatively short distances and are difficult to detect due to their small size and low radar profile.
Camp Victory has long served as a key U.S. military hub in Iraq. The base and surrounding installations continue to host American and coalition forces supporting regional security operations.
