David Bramlette, a former U.S. Army Ranger and Green Beret who led a team in Ukraine’s Foreign Legion, discusses his view on the Russian-Ukraine conflict in an interview. He praises the growing strength of the Ukrainian military while criticizing the West for overrating the Russian forces. Moreover, Bramlette advocates for stronger Western military support, such as tanks, artillery, and long-range missiles, to boost Ukraine’s offensive capabilities.

Key Points:

  1. Bramlette described the Russian invasion of Ukraine as a “good versus evil” conflict and indicated that the Ukrainian military’s fighting capabilities are improving, whereas Russia’s are deteriorating.
  2. He emphasized the importance of basic soldiering skills and the need for Western militaries to learn from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He stated that empowering junior officers and soldiers is a major challenge for the American military.
  3. Bramlette critiqued the unevenness of training and experience among Ukrainian forces, yet praised their motivation and effectiveness on the battlefield.
  4. He offered a harsh assessment of the Russian military, arguing that it has lost its most experienced fighting units and training cadres due to heavy casualties, leading to a downward trajectory of its capabilities.
  5. Bramlette argued for more Western military assistance for Ukraine, including tanks, artillery, and long-range missiles, to increase the survivability of Ukrainian units and expedite the end of the war. He emphasized that the war will be won by the frontline soldiers, not just strategic decisions made by the General Staff.
