European Union officials have provisionally agreed on the world’s first comprehensive laws to regulate artificial intelligence, including systems like ChatGPT and facial recognition. The European Parliament is set to vote on these AI Act proposals next year, but they won’t be implemented until at least 2025. The new regulations will establish safeguards and limitations on AI use, particularly by law enforcement, and allow consumers to file complaints with potential fines for violations.
