Two Israeli reservists were killed over the weekend when their tank came under attack in northern Gaza. This incident occurred alongside the deadliest attack on Israeli forces in months, which took place in southern Gaza’s Rafah on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of eight soldiers.
The attack on the tank killed Cpt. (res.) Eitan Koplovich, 28, from Jerusalem, and Warrant Officer (res.) Elon Weiss, 49, from Psagot. Both were part of the 8th Reserve Armored Brigade’s 129th Battalion. The explosion, which also seriously wounded two other soldiers, brought the toll of slain troops in the ongoing conflict against Hamas to 311.
In Rafah, an explosion claimed the lives of eight Israeli soldiers, marking a significant escalation in the conflict. The attack also resulted in serious injuries to a reservist officer from the Intelligence Directorate’s Unit 504 and moderate injuries to two other soldiers.

The conflict, now over eight months long, continues to claim lives and fuel public dissent in Israel. Calls for a cease-fire have been increasing among Israeli protesters, especially in light of the government’s controversial exemptions from military service for young ultra-Orthodox men. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has faced growing pressure to reach a cease-fire agreement, but he remains committed to continuing the war until Hamas’ military and governing capabilities are destroyed.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza has deteriorated severely, with over 37,000 Palestinians killed and 80% of the population displaced, according to local health officials. Israeli restrictions and ongoing fighting have hindered efforts to deliver humanitarian aid.
