China and Russia have completed their fourth joint naval patrol in the Western and Northern Pacific Ocean, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported on Sunday. This patrol is part of an annual arrangement between the two nations and is not directed at any third party, according to CCTV. The patrols are separate from the current international and regional situation.
China and Russia are also conducting a joint naval exercise named Joint Sea-2024 in the waters and airspace near Zhanjiang, a city in Guangdong province, southern China. This exercise, announced by Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang, is part of their annual military engagement plan and aims to showcase the two countries’ capabilities in addressing maritime security threats.
Zhanjiang, serving as the headquarters of the Chinese naval forces assigned to the Southern Theater Command, plays a strategic role in the contested South China Sea. The Joint Sea-2024 exercise underscores the deepening “comprehensive strategic partnership” between China and Russia.
The exercise, set to conclude mid-month, aims to demonstrate the operational capabilities of both navies, although specific naval units involved have not been disclosed. The collaboration reflects ongoing military ties and strategic alignment between China and Russia.
