The strike, carried out last week near Kotliarivka, about 20 kilometers from Mezhova in Russian-occupied territory, was carried out by the 1st Unmanned Systems Battalion, “Hawks of the Heights,” which is part of the 59th Separate Assault Brigade.

The unit used a Shrike-10 FPV drone armed with a PG-7M warhead, a munition originally designed for rocket-propelled grenades in the strike.

Reports initially claimed the crew survived, but pro-Kremlin Telegram channels later confirmed casualties, reporting three crew members killed and two critically injured.

The Mi-8, introduced in the 1960s, is one of Russia’s most widely used utility helicopters, serving transport and medevac missions. Ukrainian forces said that the Mi-8 is valued at over $10 million, while the FPV drone used in the attack costs just $500.
