Ukraine’s military intelligence, GUR, announced the destruction of the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s patrol ship, the Sergei Kotov, through a drone strike using the Magura V5 maritime drones. The ship, which entered service in July 2022 and had a value of $65 million, sustained damage leading to its sinking near the Kerch Strait. The operation resulted in the death of at least seven crew members, with more than 10 ambulances observed aiding evacuated crew members.
The Sergei Kotov’s destruction is part of Ukraine’s continued use of unmanned systems against Russian naval assets. Prior attacks on this ship were reported, with this successful strike demonstrating operational execution against naval targets using domestically developed drone technology.
