Beirut-Rafic Al Hariri International Airport experienced a significant cyberattack over the weekend, with hackers targeting flight information display screens to broadcast a political message against Hezbollah. The breach, which also briefly disrupted the baggage inspection system, did not affect the flight schedule. This incident comes amidst heightened tensions between Lebanon and Israel, including recent Israeli strikes targeting Hezbollah.
The identity of the hackers behind the Beirut airport cyberattack remains uncertain. Two domestic hacker groups, “The One Who Spoke” and “Soldiers of God,” are under suspicion, although the latter has denied involvement. Lebanese media suggest the possibility of external actors using these group names as a cover. Meanwhile, Lebanon’s Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Ali Hamieh, announced that most hacked screens are back to normal and that the airport was disconnected from the internet to limit damage. An investigation is underway to determine the origin of the attack, with results expected in the coming days.
