Serbian Mercenary Recruiter Criticizes Russian Army Leadership for Mistreatment

Dejan Beric, a Serbian mercenary recruiter for Russia, has condemned the 119th Parachute Assault Regiment’s leadership for poor treatment and insufficient supply of weaponry and medical aid. He highlighted the derogatory treatment of Serbian mercenaries and the dangerous orders given by the regiment’s command. Beric’s concerns reflect broader issues in Russia’s recruitment and treatment of foreign volunteers in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

According to a video released on social media, Beric revealed that before New Year, the regiment’s command ordered the Serbians to assault Ukrainian Armed Forces positions with minimal ammunition, instructing them to “acquire other weapons in battle.” The mercenaries refused this order, requesting transfer to a different unit but were instead labeled as deserters and war criminals. They were subsequently forced out of their dugouts, left without food or water, and later coerced by military police to sign confessions acknowledging they were spies.

Beric has appealed to the military prosecutor’s office and the leadership of Chechnya to transfer the Serbian mercenaries to the ‘Akhmat’ squad, but he claims the leadership of the 119th Regiment is obstructing this. He labeled the command as an “OPG” (organized criminal group) and expressed fears of prosecution for “discrediting the army.”
