Three men tragically killed in a small plane crash in Polk County, Oregon, were identified as former Afghan Air Force pilots who had served alongside the U.S. military. Mohammad Hussain Musawi and Mohammad Bashir Safdari, both 35, and Ali Jan Ferdawsi, 29, had sought asylum in the United States after the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan in 2021. These individuals, described as heroes, were in the process of rebuilding their lives and transitioning from military aviation to civilian careers in the U.S. However, their untimely deaths have left behind grieving families and communities, prompting efforts to support their loved ones and reunify families through initiatives like “Separation No More, Reunification in 24” by the Afghan American Development Group. The crash, which occurred in heavy fog, is currently under investigation by federal aviation officials.
