A U.S. Air Force B-52H Stratofortress flew within approximately 50 miles of the Russian border during a flyover of Tallinn, Estonia, in honor of the nation’s Independence Day, according to online flight tracking data.

The strategic bomber was joined by Finnish F/A-18 Hornets and Royal Netherlands Air Force F-35A Lightning II fighters during the mission.

Although scheduled, the flight sparked widespread speculation on social media, particularly as it coincided with the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Following the flyover, the B-52 continued traversing Latvian and Lithuanian airspace before passing through the Suwałki Gap—a strategically vital corridor between Poland and Lithuania that separates the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad from Belarus.

The B-52 involved in the mission is part of the 5th Bomb Wing from Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, currently deployed to RAF Fairford under Bomber Task Force 25-2.

The U.S. Department of Defense has not released an official statement regarding this specific flight. Similar missions in the past have been described as demonstrations of solidarity with Baltic allies and a reaffirmation of collective defense commitments.
