The 919th Special Operations Security Forces Squadron, composed of Citizen Air Commandos, completed a four-day field training exercise aimed at enhancing their readiness to defend an austere position. The exercise was designed to test the Airmen’s ability to apply appropriate force in fast-paced operations in foreign environments, and it encompassed the entire squadron. The scenarios included oppositional forces that required the Airmen to gauge appropriate force and procedures. Airmen learned troop leading procedures, movements, how to react to improvised explosive devices, land navigation techniques, personnel recovery, and personnel security missions. The 919th Special Operations Communications Squadron assisted with radio communications, and each team had an embedded communications Airman to act as a mobile radio specialist. The exercise ended in a blitz of gunfire as the team’s camp was overrun by oppositional forces, and the Airmen successfully defended their positions.Â
