A Ukrainian military unit is utilizing drones to conduct nighttime operations, dropping mines inside Russian territory, according to a CNN report. The 92nd Brigade’s Code 9.2 drone unit, stationed approximately four miles from the Russian border near Kharkiv, is executing these covert missions to disrupt Russian activities in the Belgorod region.
CNN, which accompanied the unit during one of these missions, reported that the Ukrainian soldiers set up their operations at dusk to minimize the risk of detection by Russian drones. The unit, operating from trenches and bunkers, utilizes “Vampire” quadcopters equipped with explosive payloads. The drones are piloted using remote controls similar to gaming consoles, navigating through challenging conditions including Russian electronic jamming.

During one operation, the unit successfully flew a drone into Russian territory and dropped two explosive devices on a road.
The Ukrainian forces have faced increasing pressure as Russia intensifies its attacks in the Kharkiv region, creating a buffer zone along its border. Despite this, the Code 9.2 unit continues to carry out its missions, often under the cover of darkness to avoid detection and countermeasures from Russian forces.
