Russia launched its largest air assault of the war on Sunday, firing more than 800 drones and missiles across Ukraine and striking the Cabinet of Ministers building in Kyiv for the first time.
“During Russia’s attack on Kyiv on September 7, for the first time the building of the Ukrainian Government – the Cabinet of Ministers – was damaged, with the roof and upper floors hit,” the MInistry of Foreign Affairs said. “Since that night, the sky over Ukraine’s capital has been covered with smoke from the explosions.”

The Ukrainian Air Force said Moscow deployed 810 drones, nine cruise missiles and four ballistic missiles overnight. Defenses intercepted 747 drones and four missiles, but 54 drones and nine missiles hit targets in 33 locations.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the strikes left four civilians dead and 44 others injured nationwide. Zelenskyy added that more than 20 houses and a kindergarten were damaged in Zaporizhzhia, warehouses were destroyed in Kryvyi Rih, and a residential high-rise was struck in Odesa.
Since last night, work has been ongoing to eliminate the consequences of Russian strikes – more than 800 drones, 13 missiles, including 4 ballistic. According to preliminary information, several drones crossed the border of Ukraine and Belarus.

He condemned the attacks as “a deliberate crime and prolongation of the war” and urged stronger support from Western partners.
“It has been repeatedly said in Washington that sanctions will follow a refusal to talk. We must implement everything that was agreed in Paris. We also count on the implementation of all the agreements to strengthen our air defense,” Zelenskyy added. “The world can force the Kremlin criminals to stop the killings – all that is needed is political will.”
The assault comes amid recent efforts by Kyiv’s Western allies to broker a peace deal as momentum to end the war stalls. In an interview with ABC News aired Sunday, Zelenskyy said that U.S. President Donald Trump “gave [Russian President Vladimir] Putin what he wanted” at last month’s Alaska summit, which ended without a concrete agreement.
On Sunday, Trump signaled his administration’s readiness to move to the next phase of sanctions against Russia. Asked by a reporter, “Are you ready to move to the second phase of sanctions against Russia?” the president replied, “Yeah, I am.”
The recent barrage surpassed Moscow’s July 9 attack of 741 munitions, previously the largest of the war.
