Ukraine struck a fuel depot and a logistics warehouse in the Moscow region overnight July 20, sending more than 400 drones toward the Russian capital in one of the largest single-night attacks on the city since the full-scale invasion began.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the swarm launched between 8:30 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. local time, with the majority intercepted at long range. Air defenses shot down 85 drones on approach to Moscow, he said. Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces destroyed 381 Ukrainian drones overnight across Russian regions, the Black Sea, and the Sea of Azov.
The independent Telegram channel Astra, drawing on published videos and photographs, identified fires at an oil depot and a Wildberries warehouse in Podolsk, roughly 24 miles south of the Kremlin, as well as a separate logistics hub in Domodedovo. The extent of damage at these sites has not been independently confirmed.
Moscow region Governor Andrei Vorobyov said 10 people were wounded in the overnight strikes, including three Chinese citizens and a child in the Odintsovo district. Several homes and civilian infrastructure sites in Podolsk, Domodedovo, and Odintsovo were set ablaze, he said.
President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the strike on X, saying Ukrainian forces hit an oil depot and logistics facilities in Moscow Oblast and struck six Russian vessels in the Black Sea. “We are responding, justly, to every Russian strike against our cities and communities,” Zelensky said. “This war must be brought to an end, and that is only possible by increasing the pressure on the aggressor.”

The drone campaign followed a Russian ballistic missile barrage on Kyiv. The previous evening, a Russian strike killed 10 people aboard a Guinea-Bissau-flagged grain carrier near Odesa, Ukraine’s seaports authority said.
