In a concerted effort to bolster military capabilities and foster interoperability, the U.S. Special Operations Command Africa (SOCAFRICA) hosted a week-long joint knowledge exchange in Kismayo, Somalia, from January 10 to January 16, 2024. This initiative brought together the Somali National Army-Danab Special Engagement Cell (SNA-Danab) and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), with support from the 95th Civil Affairs Brigade (Airborne) and the 40th Forward Resuscitative and Surgical Detachment.
The program covered essential military skills such as weapons handling, combat medical care, and communication techniques, alongside media training conducted by the 1st Combat Camera Squadron. Emphasizing practical, hands-on training, the exchange aimed to prepare participants for enhanced mission readiness and success.
This collaboration highlights the ongoing security partnership between the U.S., Somalia, and Kenya, aimed at improving the security landscape in the Horn of Africa amidst threats from extremist groups like al-Shabaab. Through such exchanges, the U.S. reaffirms its commitment to supporting regional stability and security through shared knowledge and strengthened military cooperation.
