US troops conducted a helicopter raid in Syria, targeting a senior ISIS leader responsible for planning terror attacks in the Middle East and Europe. The raid resulted in the probable death of the target and two other armed individuals. The remains have been secured for DNA verification. ISIS remains a transnational threat and continues to operate in the hopes of striking outside the region, according to CENTCOM Commander General Michael “Erik” Kurilla. While the group’s territorial caliphate has been defeated, the threat of ISIS as a resurgent terrorist group, able to direct and inspire attacks remotely, remains.Â
