President Donald Trump on Sunday issued a “last warning” to Hamas, urging the group to accept a U.S.-backed proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza or face consequences.
“Everyone wants the hostages home. Everyone wants this war to end,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The Israelis have accepted my terms. It is time for Hamas to accept as well. This is my last warning, there will not be another one!”
According to Axios, the proposal requires Hamas to release all 48 remaining hostages on the first day of a ceasefire. In return, Israel would halt its assault on Gaza City, release up to 3,000 Palestinian prisoners, and begin negotiations on a permanent end to the war.
Hamas confirmed receiving the plan through mediators and said it was ready to negotiate.
The group emphasized that any peace deal should include what it described as a clear Israeli commitment to end the war, with the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip and the establishment of an independent Palestinian committee to administer the territory.
Trump’s warning came as Israel escalated its offensive in Gaza City, demolishing high-rise buildings it said were used by Hamas.
