The UK has donated two Sea King helicopters to Ukraine to assist in the ongoing conflict with Russia, despite their age and lack of weapons. The Ukrainian military has stated that the helicopters are valuable for their practicality and reliability, including their ability to rescue casualties and carry out reconnaissance. One of the helicopters even saw service during the Falklands conflict in 1982. While the Ukrainian government had requested modern fighter jets, the UK did not have enough to spare and feared escalation of the conflict. The Sea Kings have been upgraded and modernized, with Ukrainian engineers training to maintain them.
