Taiwan is expected to receive its second shipment of U.S.-made M1A2T Abrams tanks, comprising 42 units by the end of June, according to a recent Ministry of National Defense (MND) report.
The Taiwanese government has allocated NT$40.52 billion (approximately US$1.33 billion) for the procurement, which includes a total of 108 Abrams tanks along with related equipment.
As part of the arms deal, deliveries are scheduled to take place over a three-year period, from 2024 to 2026. The first batch of 38 tanks was delivered as planned in December 2024.

According to the report, the final shipment of 28 tanks is expected in the first quarter of 2025. MND’s report said the production and delivery timeline remains on schedule, with all key milestones being met.
The M1A2T is equipped with a 120 mm main gun, providing significantly greater firepower compared to the 105 mm guns on other tanks currently in service with Taiwan’s military. Since the arrival of the first batch, conversion training has been underway, with live-fire tests scheduled for next month and official commissioning anticipated in the second half of the year.
The tanks are set to be deployed to key military units, including the 269th Mechanized Infantry Brigade, the Armor Training Command in Hsinchu County, and the 584th Armored Brigade.
