Russian media outlet Astra, citing sources from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, said two FSB employees were hospitalized following a Ukrainian drone attack on the agency’s building.
Local Telegram outlets said drones also struck the location of the Akhmat Regiment, a Chechen National Guard unit. Later in the day, local outlets reported another drone attack, allegedly targeting the police station in Sernovodsk.
Russian Aviation Major General Sergei Lipovoy told NEWS.ru that Ukrainian drones may have entered Chechnya from Kazakhstan.
“Both Chechnya and Dagestan are close to Kazakhstan. [Unmanned aerial vehicles] could have been launched from vehicles transporting them,” he said.
“The issue is that our air defense systems are usually oriented westward, but in this case the drones came from the east – and that’s the element of surprise the Ukrainian Armed Forces are relying on,” he added.
As of publication, neither Chechen authorities nor the Russian Ministry of Defence have confirmed the reports or provided information on the extent of any damage.
On Tuesday, Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported that its air defenses intercepted 45 drones, including four over Chechnya. Ukraine has not commented on the reports.
This is not the first attack against the Chechen Republic. In December 2024, drones struck the 2nd Regiment of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs, injuring four guards. Later that month, another attack targeted Chechnya’s capital, Grozny, with Russian Telegram channels attributing the blasts to Ukrainian drones.
