Alexey Ivanov, a commander within the “Peresvet” Special Forces (Spetsnaz) detachment, has been reported killed in Ukraine, according to Eastern European news outlet Nexta and the X account Russian Officers Killed in Ukraine (KIU). The latter, which tracks high-level Russian military casualties through public notices, obituaries, and news reports, indicated Ivanov was killed by a grenade dropped from a drone, operated by the 30th mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

His military career was notable; prior to volunteering to fight in Ukraine in 2022, he served in Russia’s armed forces until 2011, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and being awarded the Order of Courage.The loss of Ivanov adds to the significant number of officers Russia has lost since the onset of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, with KIU’s tally marking 3,667 officers deceased, including high-ranking generals and numerous field officers.
