A Russian drone struck the National University of Pharmacy in Kharkiv’s Slobidskyi district on Tuesday, local officials said.

The strike damaged the building’s roof and sparked a fire. While initial reports indicated two injuries, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov later confirmed that four people were wounded.

Kharkiv Governor Oleh Syniehubov identified those injured as three women, aged 51, 52, and 54, and an 89-year-old man. All are in stable condition. “The facility had no military connection,” Syniehubov said. “It was a civilian target in broad daylight.”

Prosecutors said Russia likely used Geran-2 kamikaze drones in the attack.

In a post on X, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strike and called for stronger international sanctions against Russia. “The National University of Pharmacy is just one of Russia’s targets. Communities in the Sumy, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions face ongoing strikes with Russian-guided bombs, while FPV drones are being deployed in the Zaporizhzhia region.”

“Russia can sustain these attacks because they come at little cost. Until it experiences truly significant losses, especially economic ones, it is unlikely to pursue genuine diplomacy or take steps to end the war,” Zelenskyy added.
