Russia conducted one of its largest aerial attacks on Ukraine in months, targeting energy infrastructure across the country. Ukrainian officials reported the assault on Sunday involved 120 missiles and 90 drones, causing widespread damage, power outages, and civilian casualties. Air defense forces intercepted 144 aerial threats, but several projectiles struck key facilities and residential areas.
At least nine people were killed in the strikes, including two children, while others were injured in regions like Mykolaiv, Odesa, and Lviv. A Russian rocket hit an apartment complex in Sumy, near the Russian border, killing eight people, including two children. Energy systems were severely affected, with power outages reported in multiple areas, including Odesa, where hospitals relied on generators to maintain operations.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed responsibility, describing the attack as a “massive strike” with high-precision missiles and drones targeting critical infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks, saying the strikes were intended to weaken Ukrainian morale by causing blackouts during winter.
Despite these efforts, Ukraine continues to rely on international support and its defensive capabilities to counter the escalating conflict.
