Russia and China launched joint naval drills in the Sea of Japan on Tuesday as part of Russia’s largest military exercises since the Soviet era. The “Ocean-2024” drills, spanning key regions from the Pacific to the Mediterranean, involve over 400 warships, 120 aircraft, and 90,000 personnel, and will run until September 16.
Russian President Vladimir Putin warned the U.S. against increasing military presence in Asia, accusing Washington of destabilizing the region. The exercises, which include China’s participation with four warships, reflect deepening military cooperation between Moscow and Beijing, both seeking to counterbalance U.S. influence. While Japan has reported that it is monitoring the movement of Chinese ships near its waters.
