The Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity (MCTSSA), a key player in command-and-control modernization within the Marine Corps, has been designated as the service’s first science and technology (S&T) reinvention laboratory. This designation, announced on January 29, 2024, grants MCTSSA special authorities to enhance its support for command, control, computer, communications, cyber, and intelligence (C5I) systems. MCTSSA, located at Camp Pendleton, California, and part of the Marine Corps Systems Command, joins an elite group of about 20 organizations across the Department of Defense with this status. The designation is expected to significantly benefit the Fleet Marine Force by informing acquisition decisions and improving capabilities through engineering, testing, and evaluation of C5I systems and amphibious platforms.
