he U.S. Marine Corps has rolled out the Marine Corps Tactical Instrumentation System (MCTIS) at Twentynine Palms, California, marking a notable advancement in combat training. This new system, equipped by 2,700 Marines, provides precise measurements of bullet trajectories, simulated injuries, and Marines’ real-time positions, surpassing the capabilities of older training technologies.
Designed to replace outdated “laser tag” systems, the MCTIS offers detailed feedback for commanders and individual Marines, improving post-exercise reviews. It features a comprehensive suite of gear including body and helmet harnesses, weapon mounts, and a battery pack lasting five days. The system can simulate various combat effects and monitor Marine postures, enhancing training realism and effectiveness.
Developed as part of Project Tripoli to modernize Marine training, the MCTIS aims to prepare Marines for future combat scenarios with heightened accuracy and adaptability. Saab Inc. has developed this system to be adaptable across different weapons and to simulate the impact of attacks on various materials, further enriching the training experience.
