The Israeli military confirmed on Monday that it eliminated the Hezbollah commander responsible for managing the group’s financial operations in a targeted airstrike in Syria. The operation is part of Israel’s ongoing efforts to disrupt the financial networks of the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group, which has been actively involved in the conflict between Hamas and Israel.
The strike took place in the Mazzeh neighborhood of Damascus on Monday. While Israel claimed that a Hezbollah Commander has been killed, the Syrian defense ministry said the Israeli airstrike that targeted a civilian vehicle has killed two civilians and injured three. They did not disclose the identities of the victims.

According to the Israeli army, the Hezbollah commander, whose name has not been released, headed Unit 4400, the division tasked with transferring funds to Hezbollah from Iran’s oil sales. Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, an Israeli army spokesman, explained that the commander was a key figure in ensuring that tens of millions of dollars flowed from Iran to Hezbollah through oil revenues. The unit’s previous leader, Mohammed Jafar Ksir, was killed in a separate Israeli strike in Beirut earlier this month.
Israel has been intensifying its military campaign to push Hezbollah forces away from its northern border and disrupt the group’s financial and military infrastructure. Recent strikes targeting Hezbollah’s leadership and funding mechanisms are seen as part of a broader strategy to weaken the Iranian-backed group’s ability to support Hamas and threaten Israeli territory.
