Israeli troops entered a village in Southern Syria early Thursday and arrested several individuals the military identified as Hamas operatives.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the raid was carried out by the Alexandroni Brigade in the village of Beit Jinn, located about six kilometers from the Israeli border, outside the area controlled by Israeli forces.
“Following intelligence collected in recent weeks, IDF troops carried out a pinpoint nighttime operation in Syria and arrested several terrorists from the Hamas terror organization, who tried to advance many terror attacks against Israeli citizens and IDF troops in Syria,” the military said.

The IDF said the alleged Hamas operatives were transferred to Israeli territory for interrogation. Weapons and ammunition were also seized during the operation.
Meanwhile, Syria’s Interior Ministry reported that Israeli forces killed one person and arrested seven others during the operation, all of whom it described as civilians. The ministry condemned the raid as a “blatant violation” of Syrian sovereignty.
“These practices cannot lead the region to stability and will only result in further tension and turmoil,” the ministry said.
In response to Syria’s statement, the IDF confirmed that a suspect was shot while attempting to flee and said the incident is under investigation.
Hamas has not yet confirmed the incident.
The raid comes days after a June 8 Israeli airstrike near Beit Jinn, which the IDF said targeted a Hamas member. It also follows recent rocket fire from Syrian territory into Israel.
